You can now download FREE software to read your collection of eBooks on your Mac!  With the free application, you can read books from the Kindle Store on the Mac desktop and sync your e-books across other devices (Kindle, iPhone, BlackBerry, and Windows Pc’s using Kindle app).

Blog reading is not a problem, but you can’t read magazines and newspapers on the app like you can on the Kindle device.  If you are already on the computer, then you might as well use the web browser or RSS reader.

Amazon also indicated that they will rollout a Kindle App for the just released iPad.  Since an app is already available for the iPhone, it’s not clear whether Amazon will provide an iPad specific app.  Kindle device and ebook owners planning to get the iPad will be delighted that they can continue to buy and access their ebooks from Amazon (instead of Apple’s iBooks store).

1. No Kindle required

2. Get the best reading experience available on your Mac.

3. Access your Kindle books even if you don’t have your Kindle with you

4. Automatically synchronizes your last page read and annotations between devices with Whispersync
