After many rumors, Amazon has at last released an ad subsidized KindleKindle Wi-Fi. In doing so, Amazon have cleverly introduced another price point that breaks the $100 barrier. The up front cost is just above $100 but with the Special Offers, the total cost is well below $90 and could be lower if future Special Offers are taken up.

The ads not very don’t appear too intrusive. Kindle with Special Offers ads only appear on the Kindle screensaver and Home screen footer—they don’t interrupt reading promises Amazon. Initial “Special Offers” include:

  • $10 for $20 Amazon Kindle Gift Card
  • $6 for 6 Audible Books (normally $68)
