iPad FAQ

Q – What is Apple’s iPad?
The iPad is a touch-screen tablet computer and media player that is positioned in between a smart phone (e.g. iPhone) and laptop computer in size and capabilities. Several models will be sold with varying storage capacity (16GB, 32GB, and 64GB), some of which support wireless Internet access over “3G” cell phone networks. (All models support WiFi connections to local wireless networks.)  Besides surfing the internet, users can run all the Apple applications, play video games, listen to music, watch movies, and read or listen to ebooks.

Q – How much does the iPad cost?
Price varies ($499 to $829) and depending on storage size and type of connectivity (Wifi and/or 3G).

Q – What are the dimensions of the tablet?
About the size of a standard piece of paper (11 X 8.5 inches); measures 9.7 inches diagonally and half inch in thickness; weights 1.5 pounds.  Multi-touch IPS (in-plane switching and allows for a larger viewing angle) display and screen resolution is 1024×768.

Q – Will iPhone apps work on the iPad?
Yes and it uses a version of the iPhone OS.  iPhone apps can be run as windowed mode (same resolution as iPhone) or full screen (double-pixel) mode which might make some apps fuzzy as the finer details are less clear; expect dedicated iPad apps to resolve this issue.

Q- Can the iPad multitask?
Not at this time, but expect the next version to include multi-tasking (ability to run more than one program at the same time).

Q – How long will the iPad battery last?

Q – How fast is the iPad?
The iPad runs on Apple’s A5 dual-core ARM processor running at 1 GHz. For comparison purposes, this is about twice as fast as the iPhone 3GS. The extra processing power will allow business minded apps (e.g. Apple’s iWork productivity suite) and mobile gaming.

Q – Will the 3G require a long-term contract?
Not required and service offered through AT&T with two optional data plans ($15/month with 250MB or $30 unlimited).
